Welcome to Senior English – 141
My mission as your learning coach
  • To support and engage an individual’s unique gifts, passions and intentions.
  • To develop and empower the mind, body and heart
  • To challenge and expand the comfortable limits of thought, tolerance and performance.
  • To inspire and honor the active stewardship of the community, nation and globe.

You are RESPONSIBLE and ACCOUNTABLE for ALL of the information presented here. Once stated, I will not remind you, but I WILL hold you accountable to my expectations.
Materials you will need:
  • A college ruled composition book
  • A 3-ringed binder to hold all handout – they will be recursive this year ( meaning we will refer back to them) so it’s a good idea to keep them all together.
  • A highligher and writing utensil every class
Behavioral expectations:
  • Respect and encourage the right to teach and the right to learn AT ALL TIMES
  • Be actively engaged in the learning: ask questions, collaborate and seek solutions.
  • Be on time to fulfill your daily commitments.
  • Be appropriate; demonstrate behavior that is considerate of the community and yourself.
  • Be truthful, communicate honestly.
  • Be responsible and accountable for your choices.
  • This is a COLLEGE PREP class; you chose to be here, you are expected to DO the work assigned to you at ALL times.
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
  • All written work outside of log assignments MUST be typed, double spaced, size 12 font. I do not have a printer in my classroom, and you may NOT go to the computer lab during class time to print. PLAN AHEAD.
  • You need to be in class with ALL materials and prepared BEFORE the bell rings. Logs should be with you at ALL TIMES (unless I have them).
  • Preparation and assignments – reading and responding that we will be discussing and working with in class cannot be made up (unless you are absent). If you are not prepared for class, you cannot participate + 0 for assignment and 0 for participation for that day.
  • Late Work – applicable ONLY to essays and longer assignments must be placed in the “Late Work Box” with a written explanation in the form of a letter giving the reason for the lateness. Without a letter, NO credit will be received. Late work = five points every day after whether class meets or not.
  • Leaving Class – You do NOT need to ask me if you can go to the lav or get a drink. I will TRUST you as long as you remain trustworthy. You must sign out ( office is requiring this) whenever you take the pass, no matter what it is for. I expect that you will NOT be leaving class every time it meets!
  • Keep your cell phones off
  • You are responsible for knowing what is going on at ALL times. I will list assignments on my web site and on the homework board.
  • I will help you to develop the skills necessary for success, but I will NOT baby you, give you answers, motivate you; motivation is an internal drive.
  • EXCUSES ARE ONLY POOR REASONS. You are responsible for the choices you make and the consequences.
  • College is NOT cheap- you need to be prepared. This is your last chance to gain the skills you need to be successful. They do not come easily; they require hard work and perseverance. The benefits will last you a lifetime!
